Do you suffer from nagging chronic pain in your back or neck, do you have movement restrictions or muscle tightness? Do you feel muscular tension or knotted muscles? Do you keep fit through regular exercise but suffer from repeated injuries?
There is a well-established solution, Trigger Point Pilates™ is a fantastic program created by Lydia Campbell, originally for her own rehabilitation. Having had 8 knee operations that caused her legs to be chronically tight from scar tissue, she had to learn to walk again. Because she couldn’t drive her car to have physiotherapy, she had to exercise on her own time and time again over several months without weight bearing on her knee. Despite all of this she managed to lead a fully functional life, still presenting, teaching and educating people.Combining her knowledge of functional Pilates and sports remedial treatments, she created a unique program, Trigger Point Pilates™. Evidence would suggest that this program works and alleviates problems that had been difficult to overcome by other means.
Releasing myofascial* trigger points will bring about changes in the myofascial structures by stretching or elongation of fascia. The method uses your own body weight, movement, breathing and equipment to create the soft tissue release.
The training method helps alleviate chronic pain conditions and constant muscular tightness, undoing muscular restrictions and enhances functional movement. At the end of a class one feels light, lengthened and able to move with total ease.
In fact, not only is it an excellent treatment for people from all walks of life, it’s also a great warm up and cool down class for high-intensity training.
You will start the class by gently mobilising the body, learning how to stay in good alignment and how to connect breath to each exercise. Using compression, movement and dynamic stretch you will journey through a system to release the body's fascia, trigger point by trigger point. During the class you will use foam rollers, small spiky myofascial release balls, midi sized pilates balls and stretch bands. Most of the class is spent on an exercise mat.
Please note: clinical hands on myofascial work and body adjustments cannot be replaced by Trigger Point Pilates. The class is complimentary to the therapists world.
* Myofascia or fascia is the dense, tough tissue which surrounds and covers all of your muscles and bones. This outer fascial covering is very strong and very flexible. The purpose of Myofascial Release is to break down scar tissue, relax the muscle and fascia and restore good posture.
